We enjoyed this film, and we watched it twice. A worthwhile exercise as second time round we got jokes that had passed us by the first time round.

A rogue, Cliff, who aspires to play bowls for his country earns the disapproval of his stuck up local club and gets banned from the sport. He takes on an American agent and is turned into the 'bad boy of bowls', becoming a national icon in the process. The film does make you reflect on how far bowls has already gone towards satisfying the need for tv coverage and publicity.

The outdoor portion gives interesting historical information (the indoor part has very little), plus there are scenes from many world and Commonwealth Games finals. Seeing the likes of Bryant, Wood, Corsie, Allcock, Schuback, Gourlay and Price in action, and watching their shot choices is rewarding in itself, for all bowlers. Region 2 (GB and Europe) format.
